Liberian English is the form of English spoken in the African country of Liberia. Because freed American slaves settled in Liberia, it is a descendant of American English. Although it can be difficult for a speaker of American English to understand a speaker of Liberian English. This is so, for a number of reasons. Such as, the English of American slaves was already much different from that of white America, and when freed slaves were sent to Liberia, the language changed even more. Also, the language of the native tribes and ethnic groups has made an impression upon Liberian English. Although there has been heavy segregation between native Liberians and freed American slaves, which leads to Liberians having varying accents depending upon their heritage.
