Lighthouse Point is a city located in Broward County, Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 10,767.

Lighthouse Point is located at 26°16'29" North, 80°5'22" West (26.274691, -80.089414)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.2 km² (2.4 mi²). 5.9 km² (2.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 4.58% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 10,767 people, 5,165 households, and 3,078 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,815.4/km² (4,695.0/mi²). There are 5,871 housing units at an average density of 989.9/km² (2,560.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 97.05% White, 0.43% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.79% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.42% from other races, and 1.16% from two or more races. 4.18% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 5,165 households out of which 19.5% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% are married couples living together, 6.0% have a female householder with no husband present, and 40.4% are non-families. 33.6% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.3% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.08 and the average family size is 2.65.


In the city the population is spread out with 16.2% under the age of 18, 3.4% from 18 to 24, 27.1% from 25 to 44, 30.1% from 45 to 64, and 23.2% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 47 years. For every 100 females there are 91.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 89.4 males.


The median income for a household in the city is $53,038, and the median income for a family is $72,418. Males have a median income of $51,897 versus $32,929 for females. The per capita income for the city is $40,839. 5.0% of the population and 2.6% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 3.8% of those under the age of 18 and 6.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
