Lincoln, New Mexico is a small community approximately 57 miles west of Roswell (by road). Lincoln, in Lincoln County, lies a few miles south of the Lincoln National Forest. It is the historical home of Billy the Kid. The town had a population of about 800 in 1888, and Main Street has been beautifully preserved by current residents. The community lies on Highway 380. Bonito Lake outside Ruidoso in the Sacramento Mountains of Southern NewMexico is a small man-made body of clear water reflecting the blue of the sky behind a dam at the end of a road that follows the Rio Bonito through forested canyons.
Lincoln County at one time encompassed almost one-fourth of NewMexico and was the largest county in the United States.
