Lipscomb County is a county located in the state of Texas. As of 2000, the population is 3,057. Its county seat is Lipscomb⁶. The county is named for Judge Abner Smith Lipscomb, a secretary of state of the Republic of Texas.

Demographics

As of the census² of 2000, there are 3,057 people, 1,205 households, and 845 families residing in the county. The population density is 1/km² (3/mi²). There are 1,541 housing units at an average density of 1/km² (2/mi²). The racial makeup of the county is 82.86% White, 0.52% Black or African American, 1.37% Native American, 0.07% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 12.99% from other races, and 2.19% from two or more races. 20.71% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,205 households out of which 32.50% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.10% are married couples living together, 5.90% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.80% are non-families. 28.00% of all households are made up of individuals and 16.20% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.50 and the average family size is 3.06.

In the county, the population is spread out with 27.60% under the age of 18, 5.90% from 18 to 24, 24.70% from 25 to 44, 23.40% from 45 to 64, and 18.40% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 40 years. For every 100 females there are 94.60 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.00 males.

The median income for a household in the county is $31,964, and the median income for a family is $39,375. Males have a median income of $28,750 versus $20,034 for females. The per capita income for the county is $16,328. 16.70% of the population and 12.90% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 23.50% of those under the age of 18 and 12.40% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
