Plot
When Principal Skinner calls all the students down for an assembly to tell them what subjects they are failing, Lisa discovers to her horror that she is flunking gym class. In order to pass, she must join an outside of school sports program. Lisa tries basketball and volleyball but finds that she is no good at either. Lisa imagines being sentenced to Monster Island for failing PE. The judge informs her that the term "Monster Island" is just a name, but Lisa discovers that the island is in fact the home of several daikaiju. Fleeing from the giant creatures (which are Mothra, Rodan, and Gamera), Lisa is informed by one of her fellow inmates that what the judge meant was that, Monster Island is in fact a peninsula. One day, the Simpsons go to see Bart play ice hockey for his team, the defending champions, Mighty Pigs, coached by Chief Wiggum. Bart seems to be a great hockey player and wins the game for Springfield. Spurned by his sister's apparent contempt at his sporting abilities, Bart begins shooting hockey pucks at Lisa with his stick, which she successfully fends off. Apu, the coach of the Kwik-E-Mart Gougers, notices that she’s a natural at hockey goaltending and instantly makes her goalie for his team. Lisa soon becomes the star player, leading them to their best season ever, and gets all the attention. When bullies at school beat Bart up, she saves him and he begins to resent her. The sibling rivalry between Bart and Lisa continues to increase, not helped by Homer, the hyper-competitive dad. Marge tries without success to stop the feuding and resolve their conflicts by reminding them that they are not in competition with each other. Things get complicated when the Gougers face off against the Mighty Pigs. Years of sibling rivalry come out on the ice, but just as Bart is supposed to slap a penalty shot into the goal, they both throw aside their equipment and the match is tied. Bart and Lisa realize that their love to each other is stronger than their loyalty to their teams. Bart remembers when he wanted to eat the cookies in the cookie jar and Lisa helps. Lisa remembers the entertainment Bart did for her with shadow puppets. Bart also remembers when he first skateboarded scraping his knee before Lisa put on a bandage. Lisa remembers her sadness with her ice cream when Bart gives his. Marge feels proud of them, while a sobbing Homer declares them both losers and decides to choose Maggie as his favorite child. The residents of Springfield, not satisfied with this revelation, riot, tearing the stadium to pieces. For the comic book series of the same name, see Bart Simpson comics. ...

Note, however, that the second and last of these are respectively "Berman" and "Stuart" spelled backwards.

- Some time after this episode aired, "The Simpsons" received an award from an organization that promotes wholesome family relationships on television. At the ceremony, they screened the ending of this episode, but cut it off after Bart and Lisa's reconciliation, before the tie game causes the agitated crowd to explode in a violent riot. Executive producer David Mirkin was so upset by the organization's misuse of the episode that when he went up to accept the honors, he vehemently expressed his anger with the organization and told the audience exactly how the clip was supposed to end.
