Lisdoonvarna (Irish: Lios Dúin Bhearna) is a spa town in county Clare in the Republic of Ireland, famous for its music and festivals. In September, one of Europe's largest singles match-making festivals takes place. The event is an important tourist attraction. The name of the town comes from the Irish, meaning "The enclosure of the gap".


The Irish folk singer Christy Moore [1] (http://www.christymoore.com/) wrote a song called Lisdoonvarna wherein he celebrated the music festival which took place near the town until the early 1980s.

Lisdoonvarna developed into a tourist centre as early as the mid 18th century when a top Limerick surgeon discovered the beneficial effects of its mineral waters.
Lisdoonvarna is close to many major tourist attractions such as the Cliffs of Moher, the Burren and the rugged North Atlantic coast.
