Oviedo (Asturian : Uviéu, Latin: Ovetus) is the capital city of the Principality of Asturias in northern Spain. Oviedo is the capital of the Principality of Asturias and is the administrative and commercial centre of the region. King Fruela I, the fourth of the Asturian monarchs, was the first decided promoter of the city as may be witnessed by his construction of both a palace and a nearby church.

The Principality of Asturias (Asturian : Principáu d'Asturies or Asturies) is an autonomous community within the kingdom of Spain. The Asturian coast: especially the beaches in and around the summer resort of Llanes , and the Playa del Silencio near Cudillero fishing village. Asturian language is spoken, too, and is protected by Ley 1/1998, de 23 de marzo, de uso y promoción del bable/asturiano ('Law 1/1998, of March 23, of use and promotion of Bable/Asturian').
