Florida is situated mostly on a large peninsula between the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the Straits of Florida.
Florida has the highest average precipitation of any state, in large part because afternoon thunderstorms are common in most of the state from late spring until early autumn.
Until the mid-twentieth century, Florida was the least populous Southern state; however, the local climate, tempered by the growing availability of air conditioning, made the state a haven, and migration from the Rust Belt and the Northeast sharply increased the population.
Suwannee River - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (616 words)
The river rises in the Okefenokee Swamp, emerging at Fargo, Georgia.
As the river turns north-northwest near White Springs, Florida, it begins to border the Suwannee Valley and Suwannee County.
The Trail is a cooperative effort by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Suwannee River Water Management District and the cities, businesses and citizens of the eight-county region of the Suwannee River Basin.
