List of Oklahoma State Highways Oklahoma has a large network of roads maintained by the state. These roads, Oklahoma State Highways, serve as the second-lowest tier on the Oklahoma road system. They are marked with a number contained inside a white circle in a black box. The number is generally even if the highway runs north-south, and odd if it runs east-west (this is the opposite of the numbering for Interstate and US Highways). A circular highway shield for route 42 A circular highway shield for route 110 A circular highway shield is a route marker consisting of a number superimposed on a circle. ...
Some of the potential two-digit route numbers have not been issued for state highways so that they are not confused with US Highways and Interstates bearing the same number designation. These include: OK-60, OK-62, OK-75, and OK-81. OK-35 has been issued, but it is only for a short spur, far from I-35. Other two-digit highways that have yet to be assigned include: OK-12, OK-13, OK-21, OK-41, OK-57, OK-61, OK-68, OK-84, and OK-90. OK-40 was once issued, but was absorbed into U.S. Route 177; see OK-40A. Many Oklahoma state highways have short spur routes connecting them to towns which lay off of the main route. Many times, these bear the same number as the parent highway, with a letter suffix. Highways with these spurs are marked in the chart below with a ¹. Some state highway spurs and loops from US highways have designations that are drawn from the parent US Highway designation. As higher-level roads replaced sections of some routes, those sections sometimes had their designation revoked. This lead to some highways being fragmented, missing one or more sections in the middle of the road. In the chart below, these are marked with a ². The length field reflects only the signed portion of the road (not including the decommissioned section). There are a few unrelated highways that are designated in completely different parts of the state with the same name. These are marked with a ³. Also, many routes into, through, and around state parks, recreation areas, and wilderness management areas are designated state highways. During the first week of January 2006, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation announced that a new design for Oklahoma State Highway markers had been approved. On the new signs, the highway number will appear inside an outline of the state as opposed to appearing inside a circle. All highway marker signs in the state should be replaced by the end of the year. [1] | Number | South or West Terminus | North or East Terminus | Length |
