Patrick Star Patrick is fat, friendly, and very idiotic, but is very good at driving. He is sometimes aggressive and is SpongeBob's best friend. He and SpongeBob have apparently known each other since infancy, and they share many interests (jellyfishing, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, bubble blowing, etc.). In the episode "Rule of Dumb," it is revealed that he and SpongeBob's pet snail, Gary, are cousins, and that he is a prince. Patrick is always stupid, and he often convinces SpongeBob to accompany him in dangerous, fruitless and hare-brained activities, such as playing near fish hooks and eating whole pumpkins. However, in the episode "The Bully," it is noted that he went to community college. His stupidity can be so potent that he sometimes suffers from lapses of memory (like trying to eat a chocolate bar twice or sleeping with his eyes open) and complete shutdown of any thought whatsoever. In some rare ocssions Patrick can show suprising intellect like in "Squidtastic Voyage" he was able to come up with a plan to save both him and Spongebob and the plan was even noted as being right by Sandy. In spite of the disastrous outcomes of Patrick's ideas, SpongeBob constantly attests to Patrick's genius and consults the starfish for advice and guidance. Patrick is revealed to be able to play many instruments like the belly drum. He is usually hairless but can pop hair anywhere he wants. A community college is a type of educational institution. ...
Patrick has no job or trade and spends most of his time sleeping and watching television under his rock house or playing with SpongeBob. He does give advice to SpongeBob, although it's not usually practical. When he tries to find work, it is shown that he has little practical skill; for example in "Big Pink Loser," he struggles with tasks such as sweeping or opening a jar. He has been employed once by Mr Krabbs in the episode Arrgh! during a game of "The Flying Dutchman's Treasure Hunt", only to be fired 2 seconds later. Although he has an extreme skill for doing nothing as shown in "Stanley S. Squarepants." In the Episode "Patrick SmartPants" Patrick becomes extremely smart after falling off a cliff, losing the top of his head, and Spongebob mistakes brain coral for the top of Patrick's head. He has also been a criminal many times in the series, like in the episodes "Life of Crime" and "SpongeBob Meets the Strangler" among others. He was born on Feburary 26, 1986. His height is 6 inches. Voice by Bill Fagerbakke. Squidward Tentacles Squidward Tentacles is SpongeBob and Patrick's neighbor, voiced by Rodger Bumpass. The name "Squidward" is a portmanteau of 'squid' and 'Edward.' He is a six-legged blue-green octopus,[1] known in the series for his negative and unenthusiastic personality and belief that he is better than everyone. Squidward generally uses two of his tentacles as arms and groups the other four into two pairs of legs but he is nevertheless an octopus even though he only has six legs. Animators thought that having eight legs on the character—which would be correct for an octopus—made him look too burdened. He is marked by his large nose and bald head. When he laughs, his nose appears to deflate and go back to normal frequently. (Even though he will rarely laugh at someone else's joke, he usually tends to laugh at his own.) He lives in a large Moai (Easter Island head) between SpongeBob's pineapple-house and the rock under which Patrick resides. Rodger Bumpass (born 23 January 1959 in Jonesboro, Arkansas) is a voice actor with credits in cartoons stretching back to the The Jetsons. ...

Squidward is an aspiring artist and musician, though most of his art is created in tribute to himself and his music--his instrument of choice being the clarinet--is considered that he's bad at it. Two soprano clarinets: a Bâ clarinet (left, with capped mouthpiece) and an A clarinet (right, with no mouthpiece). ...
While his neighbors SpongeBob and Patrick are generally cheerful, Squidward is very irritable and unenthusiastic. He has a dry wit, and is constantly sarcastic. However, at sometimes he can be care free and happy, which is rare. He is not very popular in Bikini Bottom due to his supercilious attitude toward those he feels are "uncultured." SpongeBob and Patrick consider Squidward to be their best friend, though he despises the duo. While his opinion of them is obvious, they either do not care or are oblivious, as they treat him as "one of the guys". Their antics and games annoy Squidward, but he will grudgingly participate if egged on or challenged. One of the reasons Squidward hates the duo so much is because of their love for jellyfishing, though it is revealed in one episode Squidward himself invented jelly fishing after getting sent back to prehistoric times. One of Squidward's ancestors was called Squog, from the Permian period. Squidward works as the cashier at the Krusty Krab restaurant, only one room away from SpongeBob. Squidward's main rival is his former band classmate Squilliam Fancyson who is the richest squid in Bikini Bottom. He is also 7 and a half inches tall.
Mr. Krabs Eugene H. Krabs, mostly referred to as Mr. Krabs, is the owner and founder of the Krusty Krab restaurant and is SpongeBob and Squidward's boss. He is a red crab, though his daughter Pearl is a Sperm Whale, that being a running joke throughout the series. Eugene is a nefarious penny-pincher and money hoarder. He often charges outrageous prices for poor-quality goods and foods, and takes advantage of every free product or service. His treatment of his staff is just as miserly; he is often seen violating minimum wage laws, all while working his two-man staff an inhumane number of hours. In the episode Born Again Krabs, he sold SpongeBob for 62 cents. There have been, however, instances where he is unselfish, though these are exceedingly rare. In his youth, he served in the Navy, and retains many of the mannerisms and lingual habits of a sailor, notably his pirate accent. He first appeared in the episode "Help Wanted." The plankton known as Sheldon J. Plankton is his former friend turned arch-nemesis. Their relationship's origins were revealed in the episode "Friend or Foe". In the episodes "Sandy's Rocket" and "As Seen on TV", Mr. Krabs has a pet worm named Mr. Doodles. He lives in a giant ship's anchor converted into a some what luxurious home. In the episode "Stanley S. SquarePants", it is revealed that he has three nephews, similair to Scrooge McDuck. He likes SpongeBob's boating school teacher, Mrs. Puff, was born on November 30 in 1942 and is 7 inches tall. In the SpongeBob movie, he was frozen by King Neptune. Mr. Krabs also harbors an affinity for electronic music, as seen in the episodes Krab Borg as well as in "Jellyfish Hunting". Mr. Krabs is voiced by Clancy Brown. Sandy Cheeks Sandra "Sandy" Cheeks is a female squirrel from Texas. She is friendly, yet sometimes aggressive, and SpongeBob's other best friend. She wears an astronaut-like suit and an air helmet over her head while in front of Bikini Bottomites, usually only removing it when inside her large underwater home (known as the "Treedome"). This huge plastic dome containing a grassy field and a large oak tree is sponsored by three primate scientists who also provide her with grants so she can invent mechanical devices. While Sandy is a multi-faceted genius possessed of advanced mathematics, athletics, and scientific skill, she is not above playfully sparring with SpongeBob at karate or joining him at fun locales like Goo Lagoon. It is known that Sandy hibernates, but she seems to be able to put the need on hold for holidays. Sandy first appeared in "Tea at the Treedome". Over the course of the series, Sandy is shown to be something of an adrenaline addict as well as being highly competitive. She is frequently shown practicing karate with SpongeBob and practices several extreme sports, as shown in Pre-Hibernation Week. The same episode exhibited Sandy's unusual physical strength, as she was able to pick up entire buildings in Bikini Bottom with one hand. Seen in most of the episodes that she is in, she usually exaggerate her statements with Texan vernacular and metaphors. Sandy is voiced by Carolyn Lawrence. She made a few minor appearances in some episodes as well as a major appearance in Tea at the Treedome . In some episodes it is shown that SpongeBob may have a crush on her. Plankton Sheldon J. Plankton, known simply as Plankton, is an ego maniacal, green copepod. He is Mr. Krabs' enemy and the series' resident evil guy (although, according to the episode "Friend or Foe," they were once friends.) Plankton runs an unsuccessful restaurant called the Chum Bucket, located directly across the street from the Krusty Krab. His stated goals in life are to steal the secret Krabby Patty formula from the Krusty Krab, and to rule the world. Plankton is married to a computer named Karen (voiced by Tom Kenny's wife Jill Talley). Plankton and Karen first appear in the episode "Plankton!". Plankton's first name was revealed to be Sheldon in the episode "Plankton's Army". Plankton has created many hi-tech gadgets, such as a robot version of Mr. Krabs, a life switcher machine, a machine made to look like a customer of the Krusty Krab, and a high tech analyzer seen in two episodes. He almost became Mr. Krabs' stepfather in "Enemy in-Law", when he falls in love with Mrs. Krabs, Mr. Krabs' mother. In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Plankton finally steals the Krabby Patty secret formula, creates bucket helmets, and takes over the bodies of the citizens of Bikini Bottom, almost getting to rule the world. In this same movie, he also manages to steals King Neptune's crown, and blaming it on Mr. Krabs, causing to have Mr. Krabs frozen for punishment. Plankton is voiced by Doug Lawrence. Other characters - Patchy the Pirate - A live action character who is the President of the SpongeBob SquarePants fan club. He hosts the SpongeBob SquarePants specials and major events and is portrayed by Tom Kenny, the voice of Spongebob as well as various other characters. Patchy resides in Encino, Los Angeles, California.
- Potty the Parrot - Patchy the Pirate's green pet parrot. He is mischievous and enjoys playing practical jokes, as well talking back to Patchy. Potty is voiced by the creator of the show, Stephen Hillenburg and by Paul Tibbitt in "Friend or Foe". He first appeared in "Christmas Who?". He is credited as Potty Puppetparrot[citation needed].
- Mrs. Puff - A White-spotted puffer with blonde hair and green fins. She is the teacher at her boating school, where residents of Bikini Bottom learn to drive the boat vehicles that are featured in the show. She usually has a hard time teaching Spongebob, up to the point where she loathes him. She is a widow. Her husband was caught by fisherman and made into a lamp- where it is revealed in "Krusty Love", which is the episode that Mr. Krabs falls in love with her. Mrs. Puff is voiced by Mary Jo Catlett and first appeared in the episode "Boating School".
- Larry the Lobster - A red lobster who is the lifeguard of Bikini Bottom's popular beach, Goo Lagoon. He is a bodybuilder and workout fanatic and is sometimes seen either competing or lifting weights. Larry first appeared in the episode "Ripped Pants" and is also good friends with Sandy and SpongeBob, even though he does consistently gloat about his achievements. Larry is voiced by Doug Lawrence.
- Pearl Krabs - A sperm whale that is Mr. Krab's daughter. She is an average 15-year-old teen girl (who became 16 in Whale of a birthday), often seen hanging out with her friends or criticizing how her dad isn't cool, or "coral", as she calls it, and hates being embarrassed by him. She is under the impression that she is popular, but only has a few friends like Jenny and Judy. It is most likely her mother was a whale and she was not adopted, for in "Whale Of A Birthday" Mr. Krabs shows Squidward the sign he got her the day she was born. The sign says "It's A Boy!", but Mr. Krabs crossed out "Boy" and put "Girl." The origin of Pearl's mother is currently unrevealed. Pearl is voiced by Lori Alan.
- Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy - Two heroes that SpongeBob and Patrick watch on television and visit sometimes. Mermaid Man seems to be based on Aquaman and Barnacle Boy seems to be based on Aquaman's former sidekick Aqualad. They live in the Shady Shoals retirement home but still seem to "fight" crime. Although they are human, it seems they do not need oxygen. Mermaid Man is voiced by Ernest Borgnine and Barnacle Boy is voiced by Tim Conway. (In the episode Super Friends Mermaid Man calls Barnacle Boy Kyle. This may suggest Barnacle Boy's real name).
- King Neptune - The king of the ocean. In The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie, Jeffrey Tambor voiced King Neptune. King Neptune is a massive, green mermaid who has a horrible temper and ginger beard to match, a huge, shiny bald spot and lives in a submerged castle. He fathers one daughter, Mindy, who Patrick has a crush on. King Neptune is also portrayed as a god who appeared in the episode 'Neptune's Spatula' when SpongeBob pulled out a spatula from the grease (in this episode Neptune had flowing, red hair and is voiced by John O'Hurley). He challenges SpongeBob to make Krabby Patties and loses when his Krabby Patties taste awful. In "SpongeBob and the Patty Gadget", he is voiced by Paul Tibbitt, and is shown briefly in this episode waking up after Squidward's patty machine's explosion.
- Flying Dutchman - A green, pirate ghost named after the famous ghost ship of the same name. He lives in a giant ship that floats in the underwater "sky.". He steals souls like the Grim Reaper or the Devil when he makes deals for souls. He is voiced by Brian Doyle-Murray and first appeared in Scaredy Pants.
- French Narrator - The narrator speaks at the start of some episodes of SpongeBob SquarePants and does this with a heavy French accent. He is voiced by Tom Kenny. On the November 16, 2004 episode of Fresh Air with Terry Gross, Tom Kenny admitted that Jacques Cousteau was the inspiration for the French narrator, as SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg considers Cousteau an idol.
- Karen - Karen Plankton is Sheldon Plankton's computer wife, though she is shown to have human qualities such as emotions. Karen enjoys making fun of Plankton as when his relatives arrive, like in the episode " Planktons Army" they tell her his first name is Sheldon. She often helps Plankton in his schemes to steal the Krabby Patty formula. Voiced by Tom Kenny's wife Jill Talley.

Supporting characters - Flats - Is a green flounder who made his first major appearance on the episode "The Bully", and also F.U.N.. He supposedly wanted to "kick SpongeBob's butt" through out the whole episode. Flats is voiced by Thomas F. Wilson. He also went to community college with Patrick, and is in many other episodes as a background character. He is also seen in "Texas", at the Welcome Home party at the Krusty Krab.
- Bubble Bass - He is a monstrously obese, picky fish who undermines SpongeBob's confidence in "Pickles". He was then seen in "F.U.N." mistaking Plankton for a jelly bean, nearly eating him. He made a brief cameo in the movie.
- Grandma SquarePants - Grandma SquarePants is SpongeBob's grandmother. She was seen in Grandma's Kisses, where she loves to kiss SpongeBob and treat him like a baby. When SpongeBob finally told her he was too old for her kisses, she simply said okay and began babying Patrick. This caused SpongeBob to become jealous and plead for his grandmother's stories, cookies, etc. She was also seen in "BlackJack", when SpongeBob goes to her home. She is voiced by Marion Ross.
- Grandpa SquarePants - Grandpa SquarePants is SpongeBob's grandfather, he has made brief appearances in "The Sponge Who Could Fly" and "Rock Bottom" in SpongeBob's memory. He looks like an older version of SpongeBob, and gives his grandson good advice.
- Sherm SquarePants - Sherm SquarePants is the brother of SpongeBob's father and is SpongeBob's uncle. He is a famous relative of SpongeBob for he can put an entire watermelon inside his nostril. He was mentioned in the episodes: Krab Borg, Stanley S. SquarePants and Pest of the West. He also has a picture of him in The Pest of the West. Sherm is shaped as a kitchen sponge like SpongeBob, although he has many minor differences. Unlike SpongeBob, he has brown instead of blue eyes and instead of two teeth, he has many. One of Sherm's nostrils is much larger than the other and he looks slightly more wrinkled and older than SpongeBob. His Square-Pants are a bit crumpled, and there is a metal belt holder in the middle of him. He is only seen in a photo, not seen physically.
- Old Man Jenkins - Old Man Jenkins is an elderly fish who resides at Shady Shoals Rest Home. He used to live in the Krusty Krab before Mr. Krabs purchased it and converted it into his restaurant. He was voiced by Doug Lawrence in "Sailor Mouth" and Tom Kenny in "My Pretty Seahorse". Old Man Jenkins doesn't like the modern technology as seen in "The Sponge Who Could Fly". When SpongeBob attempts to make a flying machine, Old Man Jenkins is seen several times saying "I told you nothing good would come from city folk and their flying machines!". In Friend or foe, Old Man Jenkins is Mr. Krabs' childhood neighbor and Mr. Krabs gives him the first Krabby Patty, which poisons him. He has a different appearance in nearly every episode, though sometimes he has the same appearance.
- Squilliam Fancyson - Squilliam is Squidward's successful, snooty rival from high school. He owns a band, as revealed in "Band Geeks". In which he pretends that he can't make it to the Bubble Bowl (a football event held above water), where he was going to play his music, and convinces Squidward to form a band, and the practice went horribly, but the show at the Super Bowl gave Squilliam a heart attack, because their hard rock song/power ballad, "Sweet Victory" (actually sung by David Glen Eisley), which was so popular to the football fans watching it. He also has a very impressive unibrow which he is proud of, and refers to it as "big and valuable". He first appeared in the episode "Band Geeks", and then returns in the episodes "Squilliam Returns" and "House Fancy". Voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. It is unknown what he actually does for a living aside from owning a band, but he is very rich and claims to own private jets, a private island, a private helipad, and a balloon/casino, among other things. Depsite his claiming to be far better off than Squidward, two of his three appearances have given the normally win-less Squidward two of his biggest victories, one of them even leading Squilliam to tears, a reaction USUALLY given by Squidward.

He also hosted coverage of the 21st Fry Cook Games, was the narrator of the King of Karate video in "Karate Island", and voiced the loudspeaker at the Bikini Bottom Zoo in "The Smoking Peanut". He also appears in "No Free Rides", when Mrs. Puff imagines what would happen if SpongeBob actually drove outside boating school.
