Encyclopedia > List of areas disputed over by the United States and Canada
Although Canada and The United States share the longest non-militarized border between two countries, there are still four areas whose ownership is still disputed.
The UnitedStates has a broad range of climates, varying from the tropical rain-forest of Hawaii and the tropical savanna of S Florida (where the Everglades are found) to the subarctic and tundra climates of Alaska.
The UnitedStates is also one of the largest producers of cattle, hogs, cows milk, butter, cotton, oats, wheat, barley, and sugar; it is the worlds leading exporter of wheat and corn and ranks third in rice exports.
The Congress of the UnitedStates, the legislative branch, is bicameral and consists of the Senate and the House of Representatives.
Canada was a close ally of the UnitedStates during the Cold War.
The softwood lumber dispute remains a growing issue between the two countries and is degrading the trade relationship on both sides of the border.
Canada also currently commands the multi-national Brigade in Kandahar, with 2,300 troops, and supervises the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Kandahar (which it took over from the U.S. in August 2005).
