The Governor of New Jersey is considered one of the most powerful governors in the nation, as it is currently the only state-wide elected office in the state and appoints many government officials.
Former Acting Governor Codey was the last acting governor to serve simultaneously as Senate president, as a result of the Constitutional amendment approved by the voters in 2005.
All are appointed by the Governor with the advice and consent of a majority of the membership of the state senate.
