ClaudeDebussy displayed his impressionism through, shifty sounds, wavering tones, and what the poet Verlaine described as, "harmoniously dissonant chords." Nonetheless his music was accepted by the people of the time, and have managed to still intrigue the ears of present-day listeners with perhaps the most radical of structures and harmonies.
Debussy was born into a family of small-time farm workers and artisans in a suburb of Paris known as St. Germain-en-Laye.
Debussy was never satisfied with the works of earlier composers.
Debussy was not only one of the most important French composers but was also one of the most important figures in music at the turn of the last century; his music represents the transition from late-romantic music to 20th century modernist music.
ClaudeDebussy died in Paris on March 25, 1918 from rectal cancer, during the bombardment of Paris by airships and long-distance guns during the last German offensive of World War I.
ClaudeDebussy is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the 20th century.
