ManiRatnam (born June 2, 1956, Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India) is a leading movie maker (screen writer, director and producer) of the Indian film industry.
His movies are generally made in the Tamil language, but are usually also dubbed into other languages like Telugu and Hindi, owing to their national appeal.
Rahman and Ilayaraaja, a strong story line, sharp dialogue and innovative cinematography and art direction.
Rahman was, at first, hesitant about composing music for the Indian film industry primarily because most film makers at the time used songs as "fillers" - a means by which the audience was given a break from the movie's plot.
When Rahman arrived on the Indian music scene with his first film Roja, the music industry in India was going through a crisis with the retirement of older music composers and the lack of innovation in Indian film music.
