Newark (/nuɚk/), nicknamed The Brick City, is the largest city in New Jersey and the county seat of urban Essex County.
Newark is the home of Rutgers University (Newark Campus); the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT); Seton Hall University's School of Law; the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (Newark Campus); and Essex County College.
Newark is known historically for having a high African American population, recently, however, it is beginning to divsersify, as Brazilians are beginning to gain a strong presence in the city, partiuarly in the Ironbound neighborhood, causing increase in Newarks both Hispanic and White (depending on what they consider themselves) population.
