Little Rock Air Force Base is an United States Air Force facility located in Little Rock, Arkansas. The building process used over 6,000 military personnel and another 2,000 civilians. The base opened for operation on August 1, 1955. According to the base's official website (http://www.littlerock.af.mil/), the base currently is the headquarters for the 314th Airlift Wing, 314th Maintenance Group, 314th Medical Group, 314th Mission Support Group and the 314th Operations Group.
In the Civil War the battle of LittleRock (1863) was fought there.
LittleRock is the seat of Philander Smith College, Arkansas Baptist College, the Univ. of Arkansas at LittleRock, and several other branches of the university, including the law and medical schools.
