Live Magic is a vinyl and compact disc live album by British rock band Queen. It was recorded live during the A Kind of Magic world tour and released on December 1, 1986. However, it wasn't released in the United States until August of 1996. It received strong criticism by several critics and fans, due to the massive editing of nearly all of the songs included caused by the time constraints placed on early c.ds, even Bohemian Rhapsody had the opera chunks cut out and I Want To Break Free was reduced to almost one verse and chorus. Most of the performances were recorded at Knebworth Park (the band's last ever concert with its classic line-up). Image File history File links Album cover art for Queen Live Magic album. ... Live Magic album review (3562 words)
Like ‘A Kind Of Magic’ and ‘Under Pressure’, I couldn’t imagine how this track would transfer to the stage, but I must admit, this earthier, bluesy reworking is a significant improvement on the original, and I’m big enough to admit it, is one of the superior moments on this otherwise frustrating album.
I know that during live performances the band play a backing tape of the studio original, but we still need to hear it within the structure of the composition, it is an integral part of the overall arrangement.
In common with the 'Live Killers' album (and all of the band's concerts), this is not a live rendering, but merely the original studio version from ‘A Night At The Opera’ played over the P.A., successfully concluding the concert in a lavish and extravagant style.
