Encyclopedia > Llinor ap Gwynedd

Llinor ap Gwynedd is a Welsh actress who plays the part of Gwyneth Jones in the long-running television soap Pobol y Cwm on S4C. This article is about the country. ... For Philippine soap opera, see Teleserye. ... Pobol y Cwm (People of the Valley) is a Welsh language television soap opera produced by the BBC since October 1974. ... S4C (Sianel Pedwar Cymru, which is Welsh for Channel Four Wales) is a television channel in Wales. ...

Her character first appeared in the series in January 2003, immediately becoming involved in a blackmail storyline where she claimed Dai Ashurst had tried to cripple her father, although this was later proved to be false. She was cast as a scheming character in these early days, looking to make other people's lives a misery for no reason other than her own pleasure.

In December 2004, Gwyneth was diagnosed as having breast cancer. The whole village, led by the local vicar, the late Owen Morgan, rallied around ger, but the fact that she was largely ungraeful for their efforts led to her becoming increasingly disliked in the village. Breast cancer is cancer of breast tissue. ...

Gwyneth's other storylines since have included a long-term lesbian relationship with Britt Monk, and working with former enemy Sabrina Ashurst in Caffi'r Cwm and at Deri Deithio Taxis. A lesbian is a woman who is romantically and sexually attracted only to other women. ...

In 2005, she became involved in possibly Pobol Y Cwm's most controversial storyline to date when she claimed to have spotted Owen Morgan kerb-crawling in Swansea. She blackmailed Owen and his wife Ffion (who was then also having an affair) and began relentlessly hounding her former friend. Owen attacked Gwyneth after an argument in the Rugby Club, hitting her with a rock and leaving her for dead. Garry Monk was initially jailed for the attack as her had been found with Gwyneth's blood on his shirt (from when he had found her in the woods) and had previous form for violence against women; he had also been heard in the Deri Arms threatening to kill Gwyneth given his disapproval of her lesbian relationship with Britt (Garry's sister). With help from his elder brother Brandon, Garry was later able to prove his innocence, leaving the village in shock as they had now had idea who Gwyneth's attacker was, and the village became tense as there was still a psycho on the loose. Owen might have escaped had he not killed a prostitute - albeit in self-defence - six months later, at which point Gwyneth remembered Owen's link with the prostitutes and Owen attacked her again when she threatened to make it known. Seeing no way out as the police closed in, Owen took his own life.

Following Owen's suicide in May 2006, Gwyneth appeared to have learned her lesson about interfering in other peoples lives and has since been cast as a much more mature and likeable character.

In April 2007, Gwyneth left Cwmderi to go travelling around Eastern Europe, but may well return in the future.

Trivia

Llinor had her hair cropped short to reflect her character's hair loss through chemotherapy during the breast cancer storyline.
