Lloyd Harlin Polite Jr. (or more commonly referred to as just Lloyd) was born on January 3, 1986, in New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S., to Lloyd Polite Sr. and Robin Polite. His father died when he was at the age of two, and he moved with his mother and older sister Brandy to Atlanta, Georgia. He was discovered by Joyce Irby and then made a member of the preteen group NToon, the group was moderately successful but eventually disbanded. He then decided to try his luck at being an R&Bsinger as a part of Rico Johnson's company but the company was dissolved and Lloyd continued to work on his music and met LA Reid in a studio in Atlanta, he soon became a part of The Inc. Records. He was featured on Ja Rule's single, "Caught Up". His debut single was the ballad "Southside" featuring labelmate Ashanti and his debut album was also called Southside (2004). His next single and video "Hey Young Girl" had less of an impact. Currently Lloyd is working on his next album. Lloyd is a very nice person and is very respectful!
Lloyd's own vocal abilities surfaced at a young age, and it wasn't long before he began putting his chops to the test.
Lloyd chose The Inc. over Arista, but was happy to later discover that Reid had moved over to the top post at Def Jam, where The Inc. has a distribution deal.
Nevertheless, Lloyd is hoping the album will revive the troubled Inc. camp (which over the last two years has been plagued by drug allegations, a federal probe and fallout from the 50 Cent vs. Ja Rule debacle) and establish the singer as a serious artist -- mall gigs notwithstanding.
Atlanta’s own LloydPolite is the newest member of The Inc Record conglomerate, and he wants you to come down to the Southside.
With Lloyd’s hardened, thuggish hip-hop soul flavor, which is matched up with his lyrics of adolescence, Southside is an album that will be found in the walkmans of young music lovers.
Polite continues that smooth R and B vibe on the preceding track, “Cadillac Love,” a hip-hop soul duet that features Taniya Walter.
