Lockesburg is a town located in Sevier County, Arkansas. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 711.


Geography

Lockesburg is located at 33°58'11" North, 94°10'16" West (33.969852, -94.171034)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 9.2 km˛ (3.5 mi˛). 9.2 km˛ (3.5 mi˛) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 711 people, 276 households, and 197 families residing in the town. The population density is 77.5/km˛ (201.1/mi˛). There are 328 housing units at an average density of 35.8/km˛ (92.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 92.55% White, 4.50% Black or African American, 0.00% Native American, 0.00% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 2.25% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 2.95% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 276 households out of which 37.3% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.2% are married couples living together, 10.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 28.6% are non-families. 25.4% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.0% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.58 and the average family size is 3.09.


In the town the population is spread out with 30.8% under the age of 18, 9.3% from 18 to 24, 26.7% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 12.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 31 years. For every 100 females there are 94.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 87.1 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $27,132, and the median income for a family is $31,625. Males have a median income of $25,729 versus $17,813 for females. The per capita income for the town is $12,092. 19.0% of the population and 11.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 22.4% of those under the age of 18 and 19.8% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
