In 2004 Lokomotiv Moscow won the Russian Premier League by a single point over city rivals CSKA Moscow. Lokomotiv won the championship by defeating FC Shinnik Yaroslavl 2-0 in Yaroslavl, a week after CSKA slipped up against city rivals Dynamo Moscow at home. In 2005 their head coach for many years, Yuri Syomin, left them to coach the Russian national team and was replaced by Vladimir Eshtrekov. In the 2005 season, Lokomotiv was leading the league for most of the year, but stumbled in the last games and let CSKA overtake them, ultimately finishing 3rd.


Their rugby team is one of the oldest in Russia. Originally a club for those who worked on the railways, they participated in the first USSR rugby union championship in 1937.


In 1991, following York and Fulham’s tour of the country, they along with many other Russian RU clubs, switched lock stock and barrel to rugby league. Since then, Lokomotiv have won seven Championships, including league and cup doubles in the last four years. Twelve players from the club were in the Russian national last year and will surely be in there again when they kick off the 2008 World Cup qualifiers against Holland in April. Formed in 2003 the NNRLB are developing and promoting the game of rugby league in this small European country. ...


Lokomotiv had their best season ever in 2005, winning the league and cup double in Russia, winning 21 out of 22 matches and scoring 1,560 points in the process. However, they have not yet transferred this success over to the Rugby League Challenge Cup. In their three previous games in this competition, they have failed to register a win. Lokomotiv Moscow (FC Lokomotiv Moskva, Russian: Футбольный клуб "Локомотив" Москва [1]) is a Russian football and rugby league club based in Moscow.
The football club won the Russian Premier League in 2002 (ending Spartak Moscow domination) and in 2004, the USSR Cup in 1936 and 1957, and the Russian Cup in 1996, 1997, 2000, and 2001.
Lokomotiv had their best season ever in 2005, winning the league and cup double in Russia, winning 21 out of 22 matches and scoring 1,560 points in the process.
