Loleatta Holloway (born November 5, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American singer known for classic disco songs such as "Dreamin'" and "Love Sensation" (the latter which has been sampled greatly). She began gospel singing with her mother in the Holloway Community Singers and she has also recorded with Albertina Walker in the Caravans gospel group. Holloway was also a cast member of the Chicago troupe of Don't Bother Me I Can't Cope. Holloway found moderate disco success where she placed eighteen songs on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play charts, including four #1s, and was featured on Dan Hartman's disco classic "Vertigo/Relight My Fire". In the early 80s, she had another dance classic with "Crash Goes Love" before she hit her first #1 in the UK with the all-time classic "Ride On Time" by Black Box which featured vocal samples from 'Love Sensation'. This happened again in 1991 when Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch featured her vocals in the #1 song "Good Vibrations". Although both songs were notorious for copyright infringements, it did help elevate Loleatta to legendary status in the dance/disco community. This was certainly the case with Loleatta Holloway, a classy lady who had been performing and recording for a good number of years, before becoming a "Disco diva" in Salsoul's premier league.
Loleatta toured and recorded with the Caravans for the Savoy subsidiary Gospel and on Scepter's Hob label, before forming her own traveling company, Loleatta Holloway and her Review.
Loleatta's debut single on Gold Mind, "Worn Out Broken Heart", which reached #25 on Billboard's RandB charts in November of '76, was nowhere near the sophisticated Disco her name is so tightly connected with today.
