Lomas de Zamora is located in a region that supports livestock, grain, fruit, and poultry farms. Industries include meat packing, grain, and fruit processing, sawmilling, and the manufacture of dairy products, chemicals, rubber and paper products, and plastic and leather goods. The city is the site of an agricultural school and an art museum. It has a large British community with separate schools.


This city is home of the Univeridad de Lomas de Zamora (UNLZ), one of the biggest universities of the Greater Buenos Aires.
