Louisa County is a county located in the state of Iowa. As of 2000, the population is 12,183. Its county seat is Wapello, Iowa6.
Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 1,082 km˛ (418 mi˛). 1,041 km˛ (402 mi˛) of it is land and 41 km˛ (16 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 3.77% water.
Demographics As of the census2 of 2000, there are 12,183 people, 4,519 households, and 3,316 families residing in the county. The population density is 12/km˛ (30/mi˛). There are 5,133 housing units at an average density of 5/km˛ (13/mi˛). The racial makeup of the county is 93.91% White, 0.25% Black or African American, 0.18% Native American, 0.20% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 4.56% from other races, and 0.88% from two or more races. 12.62% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
