Lovendegem is a municipality located in Flanders, one of the three regions of Belgium, and in the province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Lovendegem proper and Vinderhoute. On January 1st, 2004 Lovendegem had a total population of 9,297 (4,536 males and 4,761 females). The total area is 19.48 km² which gives a population density of 477.24 inhabitants per km².

At the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century Europe underwent a serious crisis in the economic, social, and religious spheres.
At the beginning of 1803 Pierre Joseph Triest was appointed parish priest in LovendeĀgem.
It seems clear that she was a novice in the Cistercian Abbey of Maagdendale near Oudenaarde until the political and religious upheavals forced her to leave the convent.
