Lovettsville is a town located in Loudoun County, Virginia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 853.


Geography

Lovettsville is located at 39°16'22" North, 77°38'24" West (39.272750, -77.639911)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛). 2.3 km˛ (0.9 mi˛) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 853 people, 318 households, and 229 families residing in the town. The population density is 378.6/km˛ (980.9/mi˛). There are 325 housing units at an average density of 144.2/km˛ (373.7/mi˛). The racial makeup of the town is 95.66% White, 2.46% African American, 0.35% Native American, 0.59% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 0.23% from two or more races. 1.64% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 318 households out of which 40.6% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 58.2% are married couples living together, 9.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 27.7% are non-families. 24.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 10.1% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.68 and the average family size is 3.19.


In the town the population is spread out with 29.4% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 33.1% from 25 to 44, 21.8% from 45 to 64, and 9.6% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 89.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 85.2 males.


The median income for a household in the town is $58,942, and the median income for a family is $63,750. Males have a median income of $49,545 versus $34,896 for females. The per capita income for the town is $26,098. 2.9% of the population and 0.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 0.0% of those under the age of 18 and 5.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Lovettsville, Virginia, is located in northern Loudoun County, just about two miles south of the Potomac River, which is the state line between Virginia and Maryland.
In Virginia, church and state were not separated.
In 1836 the Virginia General Assembly passed an act to establish Lovettsville as a town, however it was not until 1876 that it was fully incorporated as a legitimate Corporate Town.
