Lu, the Chinese family names represented by the characters 呂(吕), 陸(陆), 路, 盧(卢), or 魯(鲁). A family by that name (呂) was a prominent supporter of the Eastern Jin Dynasty after the Han Zhao attacked the Jin.
"lu" or "lu rou" (lu meat) is a cooking style popular in Taiwan which is similar to the "adobo" style of cooking in the Phillipines. It refers to the spices, more than the main ingredients. Spices include the "five spices" (anise, cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and something else [may be more or less than five in actual use]), soy sauce, sugar, and salt. Typical main ingredients are fatty pork and whole chicken eggs, but chicken organs, hard tofu (dou gan), seaweed, and other meats are also popular ingredients.

Lu flew as a mission specialist on STS-84 in 1997, was a mission specialist and payload commander on STS-106 in 2000, flight engineer on Soyuz TMA-2 and served as NASA ISS Science Officer and flight engineer on ISS Expedition-7 in 2003.
Lu was the first American to launch as the Flight Engineer of a Soyuz spacecraft, and the first American to launch and land on a Soyuz spacecraft (Soyuz TMA-2).
