Luc Alphand (born in Briançon, France, August 6, 1965) is a French Occitan former alpine skier, who is now a race car driver. Briançon is a town and commune in the French départment of Hautes-Alpes (Provence-Alpes-Côte dAzur), of which it is the sous-préfecture. ... Alphand made his World Cup skiing debut in 1984. In 1997, he won the World Cup. He retired in 1997 and started a career in auto racing. First in the Nissan Micra Stars Cup (1997-1998), then in the European Le Mans Series (2001), the FIA GT Championship (2002), and the Lamborghini Supertrophy (2002). He won the 2006 Dakar Rally, in which he had finished runner-up a year earlier. With this victory, he was the first ex ski driver who won the Paris-Dakar. Luc was born in Briançon, in the French Alps, in August 1965 and currently lives at Serre-Chevalier with his wife and three children.
Testing the slopes for the first time aged two, Luc went on to become one of the most famous world downhill skiiers of all time, winning 12 World Cup victories and nine French Championship titles, twice winning the pro US Tour and ranked number one in the world.

French driver Luc Alphand was declared winner of the 2006 Dakar Rally on Sunday after finishing the final, untimed leg of the race in Senegal.
Alphand had been poised to win the event after race organizers announced the final stage would not be timed to honor two young boys killed during the race.
Alphand, a former ski champion, was clocked at 53 hours, 47 minutes, 32 seconds at the end of Saturday's penultimate stage, 17 minutes, 53 seconds ahead of South Africa's Giniel de Villiers and 1:50:38 ahead of Spain's Nani Roma, the AP reported.
