Biography Born in Bologna, Montezemolo studied at the University of Rome La Sapienza, earning a law degree in 1971, and went on to Columbia University in New York where he attended courses in international trade law in 1973 as a visiting student for a semester. Despite many erroneous reports on the web, Montezemolo was not enrolled in the Master of Laws program and does not hold a Masters degree from Columbia Law School. He drove briefly for the Lancia rally team, but upon graduating went to work for FIAT. In 1973 FIAT moved him to Ferrari, where he promptly became Enzo Ferrari's assistant and, in 1974, manager of the Scuderia. In 1975 Montezemolo was promoted out of Ferrari to be head of all FIAT racing activities, and in 1977 he advanced to become a senior manager of FIAT.
