Characteristics Although one of the first people mentioned in the game, the player does not actually see Lucca until after meeting Marle, another important character. In fact, after the opening scene of the game, where main character Crono's mother wakes him up to go to the Millennial Fair, players are asked to enter a name for Lucca as she says: "That inventor friend of yours, I can never remember her name..." The reason Crono attends the Millennial Fair is to see Lucca's new invention, the Telepod. But before he can even see the Telepod, he runs into Marle, and they eventually go together. Marle's pendant, which is a relic of the ancient Kingdom of Zeal, interacts strangely with Lucca's Telepod, and Marle is sent back in time 400 years. Lucca is often made fun of behind her back by townspeople, who claim she could "see the back of the moon with her glasses." She is also accused of lacking in mechanical skill, as many of her inventions malfunction. This is increasingly disproven throughout the course of the game. Lucca lives on a small island off the coast of Truce Village, where Crono lives, and which is also presumably the capital of the Kingdom of Guardia, of which Marle is princess. Lucca lives on the island in a house with her parents. Her mother Lara remains in the house, having been crippled by an accident ten years before the game takes place. Her father works outside of the house constantly, and this causes tension in Lucca's family. Later in the game, it is possible for Lucca to travel back in time to the specific date, July 10, 990, to save her mother. To do so, Lucca must enter a fail-safe password to deactivate the machine that crippled her mother. The password, "Lara" (her mother's name), is inputted as is in the SNES version (L, A, R, A), and as (L1, Circle, R1, Circle) in the Playstation remake. (The Circle button is in the same location as the A button on the SNES controller.) In Japan, it was (L, A, L, A). July 10 is the 191st day (192nd in leap years) of the year in the Gregorian Calendar, with 174 days remaining. ...

It is revealed, through diary entries found in her room in 990, that Lucca's interest in science came about following her mother's accident, and prior to this she held no interest in the subject. When the accident occurred, Lucca was helping her mother clean the house; leaning over one of her husband's machines to dust it, Lara accidentally switches the machine on, and snags her skirt on the machine's conveyor belt. As she is pulled closer to the wheels that would crush her legs, she cries out to young Lucca to enter the deactivation password. Young Lucca, however, does not know the password and can only look on helplessly as her mother is injured by the machine. In this case, her love of science is born from wanting to become a doctor to help her mother. If, however, the Lucca from the future deactivates the machine, her young self vows to prevent any more accidents, and takes up science so she can help her father build safer machines. Lucca uses a gun for her physical attacks. They are somewhat weak in the beginning of the game, but as the player progresses, Lucca uses her skill to produce some truly awesome weapons, not only for herself, but also for her friends. In addition, she uses a mallet to attack when enemies are too close to shoot at (the mallet will inflict the same damage as a shot from Lucca's current gun). When Crono and friends learn to use magic, Lucca's will and determination manifests itself in her mastery of fire. A gun is a common name given to a device that fires high-velocity projectiles. ...

In the ending FMV scene in the Playstation Chrono Trigger remake, it is seen that Lucca created a mini-robot modeled after Robo. In the same scene, Lucca finds an infant with a pendant, and takes her in. In Chrono Cross, where she is referred to as Dr. Lucca Ashtear, it is discovered that Lucca eventually converted her house into an orphanage. The infant is revealed to be Kid, Schala's clone (hinted by the pendant). Lucca was contacted by Lynx to help release the defense lock on FATE. Lynx and Harle burned down her orphanage/house. She still appears as a ghost in Chrono Cross. Her final message to Kid is left with a former friend and colleague, Luccia. The message is received after Serge saves Kid by being transported back in time and rescuing her from the burning orphanage. Lucca's fate is largely up in the air at this point with the events in the game, assuming she dies. Robo is a playable character in Squaresofts Chrono Trigger. ...
