In 1957, Luxembourg became one of the six founding countries of the European Economic Community (later the European Union) and in 1999 it joined the euro currency area. Luxembourg has a parliamentary form of government with a constitutional monarchy by inheritance. Luxembourg's southern and eastern borders are formed by a number of rivers, among which the largest is the Moselle.
