Encyclopedia > Lyford Cay

Lyford Cay is a gated community located on the western tip of New Providence island in the Bahamas. Lyford Cay was developed in the 1950's by prominent Canadian businessman E.P.Taylor as a private community built around a first class club. To this day Lyford Cay remains pristine, sophisticated, safe and extremely private. The club offers a plethora of activities and amenities such as tennis, golf, croquet, pools, beaches and water sports, five restaurants and a harbor for docking boats of almost any size, yet if not a member one must be a sponsored guest of a member in order to use the facilities. Only a fifteen minute drive from the airport, which is a 45 minute flight from Miami, Lyford Cay is easily accessible for even the shortest of get-a-ways. Famous residents include Sean Connery, Joseph Lewis (British), and many others. Sir Thomas Sean Connery (born 25 August 1930 ) is an Academy Award-winning Scottish actor and producer who is perhaps best known as the first actor to portray James Bond in cinema. ... Joseph (Joe) Lewis (born London) is a British billionaire who lives in Lyford Cay, Bahamas. ...
