Geography

The name "Müritz" may also apply to the entire Müritz lakeland and especially to the Müritz National Park; the largest lake of this area, the Müritz lake, is sometimes called "the Müritz".


The district of Müritz constitutes roughly the western half of the Müritz lakeland and the Müritz National Park. The Müritz lake has an area of 117 km²; it is the second largest lake of Germany after Lake Constance, and the largest lake entirely within the German borders.
