Dumile began his career as "Zev Love X" in hip-hop group KMD with brother Subroc. In the early 90s Subroc was fatally killed in an automobile accident. Hardened, KMD returned with a new album entitled Black Bastards in the mid-90s, but were dropped from label Elektra for a difference in opinion over the album's cover. Dumile disappeared off the hip-hop map for a few years, before returning under the aliases MF (Metal Face) Doom, King Ghidra and Viktor Vaughn, to name just a few. His incredible rythmic rhyming, word play and lyrical flows make him a favorite of underground hip-hop fans. In the 00s, Dumile's main releases have been Operation: Doomsday (MF DOOM, 2001), Take me to your leader (King Geedorah, 2003), Vaudeville Villain (Viktor Vaughn, 2003), the critically acclaimed Madvillainy (with producer Madlib as group Madvillain, 2004) and Venomous Villain (Viktor Vaughn, 2004).
MFDOOM was seen by mainstream audiences for the first time as Madvillain received publicity and acclaim in publications such as Rolling Stone, New York Times, The New Yorker, and Spin.
DOOM was featured on the 2004 De La Soul release The Grind Date, MFDOOM rapping on the track "Rock Co.Kane Flow", which was also released as a single.
Doom produced several tracks on Ghostface Killah's Fishscale album released in April, and the two are currently at work on a collaboration album called "Swift and Changeable".
