MGN is inflammation of the Basement Membrane of the glomeruli of the kidney.
Current research states that membranous glomerulonephritis is the result of deposition in the kidney of immune complexes, which are formed by the antibody-antigen reaction, secondary to an infection elsewhere in the body.
MGN is often accidentally discovered as the symptoms are not recognised, by either the patient or the doctor, but in most cases the slow accumulation of excessive watery fluids (oedema) in cells and tissues is the most important finding.
