Mableton is a census-designated place and an unincorporated town located in Cobb County, Georgia. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 29,733.


Geography

Mableton is located at 33°48'48" North, 84°34'18" West (33.813355, -84.571691)1.


According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 53.8 km˛ (20.8 mi˛). 53.3 km˛ (20.6 mi˛) of it is land and 0.4 km˛ (0.2 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 0.82% water.


Demographics

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 29,733 people, 10,894 households, and 7,963 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 557.6/km˛ (1,444.4/mi˛). There are 11,339 housing units at an average density of 212.6/km˛ (550.8/mi˛). The racial makeup of the CDP is 62.39% White, 29.26% African American, 0.26% Native American, 1.40% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 4.64% from other races, and 2.02% from two or more races. 9.80% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.


There are 10,894 households out of which 34.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.5% are married couples living together, 14.5% have a female householder with no husband present, and 26.9% are non-families. 21.2% of all households are made up of individuals and 6.7% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.72 and the average family size is 3.12.


In the CDP the population is spread out with 26.0% under the age of 18, 8.4% from 18 to 24, 34.4% from 25 to 44, 21.2% from 45 to 64, and 9.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 35 years. For every 100 females there are 95.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 93.2 males.


The median income for a household in the CDP is $49,426, and the median income for a family is $55,673. Males have a median income of $36,586 versus $31,391 for females. The per capita income for the CDP is $20,814. 8.6% of the population and 5.9% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 9.7% of those under the age of 18 and 9.5% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
