MacCentral (originally named MacCentral Online) is a Web site created in the mid-1990s by Stan Flack that provides daily news pertinent to the Apple Macintoshcomputing platform.
In 1998, to capitalize on the perceived rebound in the Mac computer games market, MacCentral Online acquired MacGaming. The site currently publishes a "week in games" report as a byproduct of that merger. Shortly thereafter, MacCentral Online was purchased by Mac Publishing, who, for a time, merged the site's content with MacWEEK before eventually using MacCentral's online brand recognition to support its Macworld brand.
Maccentral.com is now an httpredirect to maccentral.macworld.com, reflecting the association between Macworld magazine and MacCentral, calling the site "Macworld's News Service."
The site employs a staff of editors and reporters. The site also repurposes content from other International Data Group online publications.
MacCentral is the name of a web site that provided news and information for Mac Publishing Web sites, including Macworld.com and Playlist, before being merged with Macworld's own Web operations.
Founded by Canadian businessman Stan Flack in the mid-1990s, MacCentralOnline began life as a web site that provided daily news pertinent to the Apple Macintoshcomputing platform.
The maccentral.com domain now redirects to www.macworld.com, reflecting the fact that MacCentral is now fully integrated into the Macworld.com domain.
