Macuata is one of Fiji's fourteen Provinces, and one of three based principally on the northern island of Vanua Levu, occupying the north-eastern 40 percent of the island. Macuata is governed by a Provincial Council, chaired by Ratu Aisea Katonivere.
As a result of the meeting, the Macuata Soqosoqo VakaMarama (Macuata Women's Organization) is the first NGO in Fiji to have a strategic plan for the next 10 years, a valuable model for other women's leadership groups.
MacuataProvince is located in NorthernCentral Vanua Levu, the second largest of Fiji's 300 islands.
The Macuata Womens' plan addresses five separate goals; sustainable community development, sustainable livelihood development, education in the community, preservation of culture and tradition and conservation of the environment.
