The Madagascan Pygmy Hippopotamus (Choeropsis madagascariensis or Hexaprotodon madagascariensis) is an extinct species of pygmy hippopotamus that lived on the island of Madagascar. There is dispute over whether it should be placed within the genus Hexaprotodon ("Asiatic hippos") or Choeropsis. If the latter option turns out to be true, then its closest living relative would be the pygmy hippopotamus of modern-day Western Africa.
