Madalena is both a parish and a district in western part of the Azores.


The parish population in 2001 is around 2,509, its density is 76.1/km² and the area is 32.95 km²/2,395 ha. It is the largest and the most populated parish in Madalena.


The population is 6,136 (2001) and the area is 149.08 km². The density is 41.16/km&sup2. The district includes the western portion of the island of Pico. It is encircled almost entirely with the Atlantic Ocean except for the east. It is bordered by São Roque do Pico in the north and Lajes do Pico in the southeast. The island of Faial and the municipality of Horta is 7 km west.
