Madawaska is the name of the north-west region of New Brunswick, Canada. Its main city is Edmundston, New Brunswick. It is also the name of a border-town in north-eastern Maine, in the United States. The area was named after the First Nations Madoueskaks tribe, that inhabited the whole of the Saint John river valley from Grand Falls, New Brunswick to Sept-Īles, Quebec The earliest European settlers were the Acadian who moved to the area to escape the British.
