Madou (Chinese: 麻豆; Pinyin: mádòu; Wade-Giles: ma-tou) is a town in Tainan County of about 50,000 residents. It owes its name to the Taiwanese aboriginal word Moatau. Madou sugar refinery was established in 1910 during Japanese Occupation, Originally belonged to a Japanese 'kabushikikaisya'. The 'kabushikikaisya' ran seven refinaries, and Maudou is the base. Hence, Maudou sugar refinery has well-planed environment, featured with a Baroque office building and a woodmade dormitary. Nowadays, it has become a legacy. it is also rich with various trees. Shaddock is one of the special food of Madou. It has a various nutrition. Being harvested about the time of mid-autumn,it is usually associated with Mid Autumn Festival. MAdou Farmer's Assiciation even hold a beuty contest relevant to the shaddock every year.
