Madou (Chinese: 麻豆; Pinyin: mádòu; Wade-Giles: ma-tou) is a town in Tainan County of about 50,000 residents. It owes its name to the Taiwanese aboriginal word Moatau. It is a well-known town in Tainan for its local culinary specialties and historical sites. and has become more prosperous in recent five years due to the presence of two universities: "Diwan College of Management" and "Aletheia University." As an example of the increased attention Madou is receiving, the New Year Countdown Night for 2006 in Tainan was held at Madou Junior High School. Madou sugar refinery was established in 1910 during Japanese Occupation, Originally belonged to a Japanese 'kabushikikaisya'. The 'kabushikikaisya' ran seven refinaries, and Maudou is the base. Hence, Maudou sugar refinery has well-planed environment, featured with a Baroque office building and a woodmade dormitary. Nowadays, it has become a legacy. it is also rich with various trees. People like to have a walk or spent time with family here at leisure.


Speciality

Shaddock is one of the special food of Madou. It has a various nutrition. Being harvested about the time of mid-autumn,it is usually associated with Mid Autumn Festival. MAdou Farmer's Assiciation even hold a beuty contest relevant to the shaddock every year.
