The Maelor is an area of Wales, lying in the county borough of Wrexham. It originated as a commote of the Kingdom of Powys, focused on Bangor-Is-y-Coed.
The Maelor was first divided from the rest of Wales by the construction of Offa's Dyke in the eighth century, but was reclaimed by Wales during the reign of Stephen of England. In around 1202, the Maelor was first divided into two halves, separated by the River Dee, when it was split between two Welsh lords.
The Maelor School is a mixed comprehensive school for pupils between the ages of 11 and 18.
The Maelor School is one of very few secondary schools in the area that offer pupils the opportunity to continue their study to A level in the sixth form.
The school was established in the heart of the Maelor in the small village of Penley in 1957 to serve the needs of this extensive rural area.
Maelor Riding Club has been an established riding club for over 20 years.
Our aim is to encourage riding of all levels and abilities through our range of riding club activities, which we host throughout the year.
