The Sunset Prayer (Maghrib in Arabic) is an Islamic prayer mentioned in sura 11, verse 114 of the quran. It is said by Muslims immediately after sunset.
The word maghrib is an Arabic term for "of the setting (sun)"; from the root "ghuroob", "to set"; "to be hidden" (but it is not used for the setting of the moon).
The Maghribprayer is the sunset daily prayer performed by practising Muslims.
The five daily prayers collectively are one pillar of the Five Pillars of Islam, in Sunni Islam, and one of (the ten) Furoo-ul-deen, according to Shia Islam.
The Malikis say: The duration for the maghribprayer is narrow and confined to the time required after sunset to perform the maghribprayer along with its preliminaries of taharah and adhan, and it is not permissible to delay it voluntarily.
The Imamis observe: The period specific to the maghribprayer extends from sunset(4) for a duration required to perform it, and the specific period of the 'isha' prayer is the duration required to finish it before midnight.
