Encyclopedia > Magong

Makung (馬公 Pinyin: Mǎgōng) is the county seat of Penghu, in Taiwan Province, Republic of China. Makung is on the western part of the main Pescadore island.

The earliest temple in Taiwan to the goddess Matsu is found on Makung. Makung is therefore also known as "Magong Ao" (馬宮澳 or originally, 媽宮澳), or "Matsu Palace Seaport". The character ma was changed from "mother" (媽) to its present form in 1920 under the Japanese Occupation. There had been proposal from the Executive Yuan to revert the character, but there was little support.

It contains a domestic Makung Airport.

REAL PULP FICTION (9651 words)
For a million historical years, men of my race inhabited Magong when she was yet a planet among planets, a free, rotating sphere with her own undisturbed orbit, midway between the orbits of this planet and that of the terrible, devastating war- world, Mars.
He evidently decided to risk all in an attempt to dodge the projectiles, for I saw that Magong was shifting out of her orbit—moving in closer to the sun in an eccentric fashion that would make it difficult for an operator to properly aim and time a projectile intended to strike her.
An occasional meteor cluster struck Magong from time to time, but they grew smaller and fewer in number—a sure sign that their projectors were succumbing, one by one, to the death-dealing rays our people had left trained on their planet.
