Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,695 km˛ (1,813 mi˛). 4,590 km˛ (1,772 mi˛) of it is land and 105 km˛ (41 mi˛) of it is water. The total area is 2.24% water.

The racial makeup of the county is 97.22% White, 0.10% Black or African American, 0.29% Native American, 0.17% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 1.62% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. 2.93% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
