Mahon is an area to the eastern side of Cork City. It was once a peninsula of lush green fields and estates but in recent years has seen many developments. It is now home to the Mahon Point shopping centre complex and a main national road runs through the area, entering the Jack Lynch Tunnel which runs under the River Lee. The area is mainly residential with housing estates packed densely throughout. There are three schools in the area, Gaelscoil Mhachan, Nagle Community College and Scoil na Croise Naoifa.
