The owner of the island is the Swedish Lord Bernadotte. It is one of the main tourists attractions of Lake Constance. Beside flowers, there is a great park landscape with beautiful views on the lake. There is also a greenhouse with tropical climate and thousands of butterflies in it.
In summer you will see lots of small sailing boats. The Mainau bay is where the university sailing club is located.

Mainau is an island in Lake Constance (on the south shore of the Überlinger See, near the city of Konstanz), at approximately 47°42′N, 9°12′E. It is maintained as a garden island and a model of excellent environmental practices.
The island belongs to the Lennart Bernadotte-Stiftung (in English, the Lennart Bernadotte Foundation), an entity created by the late Lennart, Count Bernadotte af Wisborg, formerly a Prince of Sweden and Duke of Småland.
Mainau bay is the location of the university sailing club, and many small sailboats add to the scenery in summer.
The death was announced by the foundation he formed to administer the 96-acre island, which had been in and out of the possession of the Swedish crown since the end of the Thirty Years' War in the 17th century.
The island's balmy climate – rare for Europe north of the Alps – inspired its owners in the mid-1800s to cultivate rare plants and start an arboretum, an Italian rose garden and an orangery.
He withdrew from daily operations of the island in the 1980s and entrusted the island and everything on it to the Lennart Bernadotte Foundation, which the couple formed in 1974.
