A mainline flight is one that is operated by an airliner's main operating unit, rather than by its regional alliance, regional code-share or regional subsidiary. Examples of mainline passenger airline flights would include those operated by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, etc. but it would not include flights operated by regional airline American Eagle or Comair with regional jets (RJ)s or the services of "mainline" regional airline sub-brands such as American Connection, Delta Connection, or United Express, etc. aboard aircraft that at first appearences to passengers seem to be modern day propliners.
