The publisher has reached financial trouble lately with their major games, such as Psychonauts, which sold poorly despite achieving several awards and critical acclaim, and Advent Rising, which was released under intense hype only to be panned by critics for being rife with technical issues and poor gameplay implementation in general. In January 2006 the company's financial situation was so bad that it had to cancel two games it was going to publish: Demonik, developed by Terminal Reality, and Taxi Driver, a sequel to the movie. Majesco has announced that is will focus on budget and handheld games from now on and has reportedly cancelled its Taxi Driver and Demonik games in light of some fairly disastrous fourth-quarter financial results.
In a conference call since the announcement, GameCloud reports that Majesco confirmed the cancellation of Taxi Driver (an adaptation of the Martin Scorsese film in development at Papaya) and Demonik (a Terminal Reality title based on concepts by Clive Barker).
We entered the premium console market with high expectation for success, but as a result of a variety of factors we were not able to meet our expectations.
